Friendsgiving Blog Hop
Hello and welcome to the Friendsgiving Blog Hop! I am so grateful for the opportunity to be inspired by these 6 other talented bloggers who will be sharing their Thanksgiving tables and traditions over the next two days! If you are coming from Aratari At Home, White Arrows Home or Everyday Elegance By Natalie welcome! If this is your first stop well, I hope I can measure up to my friend's homes. I love that we all have different styles and family traditions.
Thanksgiving has always been just as special to me as Christmas Day. The traveling to my families' home to see those I love and the memories that come with it can't be fully measured with words. Over the years as our family has grown, Thanksgiving has been hosted at different locations. This year my oldest son will be playing football the weekend of Thanksgiving so we won't get to travel to spend it with mine or my husband's family. But this won't stop me from decorating for the season and planning for my family of four celebrating together.
Today I'm showing you two different Thanksgiving tables and the areas we use to set out appetizers, desserts and those grazing items during the day.
KIDS TABLE
This table I'm calling the Casual Country Thanksgiving themed table. When we moved into this house it just didn't have the room like we had at our last house in Dallas. My 10 person farm table is put up, so now when I host we use two tables instead of one. I like to use this more casual space for the kids to sit at. Who else has an adult table and kids table? I really don't have "KIDS" any more because they all are now above the age of 15, but sometimes adults want to talk about things that kids really aren't interested in.
I love to add place tags to the table. It just gives that extra special touch and too no one has to guess where to sit. When I made these tags I was looking for simple. You'll never believe it but I traced a leaf onto two shopping bags I got at Macy's and our local grocery store. I'm all about using the resources I have around me that doesn't cost anything. I tied it to my navy velvet pumpkins from Joann's Craft Store with twine. Last to get the name on it since my handwriting isn't the best. Once I printed it off from a WORD document, I took a pencil turned the paper over to the back and coated the name with graphite by rubbing the pencil lead back and forth onto the paper. After that's done, place the side onto the cut out leaf and trace the name using the pencil. It will transfer the graphite word onto the leaf. Now go back with a sharpie. There you have it! An easy peasy way of transferring a name for those of us that don't have beautiful handwriting.
I really love these plates I found at Macy's. They say exactly what you do on Thanksgiving. Eat, taste, nibble and bite, so Fun! You can find these plates here. I enjoy using colors that aren't always your traditional colors. These Johnson Brothers Devon Cottage blue and white plates bring a pop to the table on top of the white rustic chargers from Tuesday Morning.
Using craft paper as a table runner is a great way to make your kid's table casual and useable at the same time. You can have some crayons at the table to help keep them occupied. I can see some tic tac toe going down here. Feedsack blue striped table runner can be found at HobbyLobby.
Nothing says it best at Thanksgiving than the word "gather"! I love this metal gather sign from Magnolia Market. Joanna Gaines always has the best décor items. When I went to Vintage Market Days this year, I found these old wooden spools that I like to use like candlesticks. Their perfect to prop pumpkins on. My last find was this adorable turkey! Guys it was love at first sight when I stumbled upon him at my favorite store Homegoods. He was saying, "gobble gobble take me home"! Hehe
Before we sit down to eat, we like to gather in the kitchen and hold hands to say a prayer. Then we get our plates and fill it up with some of my favorites, deviled eggs which I usually make, mashed potatoes, homemade stuffing, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, green bean casserole, candy yams (not my favorite), crudité items, Brussel sprouts, and of course Turkey. In addition to Turkey you might find some beef in there like prime rib. Most of the food is served from the kitchen but when we need an overflow area, I love this built in buffet behind the table. It's great for decorations and food. Most importantly it has the coffee bar, which I use daily!
ADULT TABLE
Thanks for sticking around you've now made it to the adult table and no one had to die!
Welcome to the adult table, have a seat and grab yourself a drink while you eat, relax and enjoy the conversation. When decorating my adult tables I always like to add a little bit more glam. I'm really loving copper right now and also blush.
Don't let the Turkey fool you!
The centerpiece is kept lower so when your conversing with the others across the table you can see them better. Adding some kind of floral arrangement brings your table alive and fresh looking. I absolutely love this new table runner from Target! As you see I'm not going for the traditional look. The geometric shapes almost brings a bohemian twist to the table.
You're in luck because only at the adult table is there a couch for you when you're too stuffed to get up and you need to rest.
Isn't this pillow adorable?! The letters are spelled out with beads. It was a find at Homegoods and I was so excited to take it home.
Next to the table is an area where we put the appetizers and desserts. It's this table that will kill ya or maybe make your clothes not fit anymore.
Thanksgiving is not only a time to enjoy wonderful food, and company but it's the reflection we take on what we truly are thankful for. Every year we take turns around the table and write down or say what we are thankful for. I love this part of the day, because I get to see what's on everyone's hearts. Many times its health and family. But for me it's that I first have a Savior that has chosen to give me Grace when I don't deserve it. Next is yes my Family, and being a wife and mother. Those things I so easily take for granite.
Thank you friends for stopping by and seeing how we do Thanksgiving here at Welcoming Home, a place where your always welcome to stay and visit awhile.
God Bless!
